Kappa Alpha Psi

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc was founded on January 5, 1911, on the campus of Indiana University. The ten Founders wanted to create an organization that provided outlets for success, and protection, for Black men attending college in the racist and segregated state of Indiana. Originally named Kappa Alpha Nu, the organization was officially renamed Kappa Alpha Psi in 1915.

Kappa Alpha Psi® is the 2nd oldest existing collegiate historically Black Greek Letter Fraternity and the 1st intercollegiate Fraternity incorporated as a national body. We have 125,000 members with 700 undergraduate and alumni chapters throughout the world. The local chapter, Delta Alpha, was chartered at Portland State University on December 9, 1950, but now the charter resides at the University of Oregon. Spring 2022 will be a great return for our Noble Klan.

The motto of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is “Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor.” Every day, our members remind ourselves of this, and we seek to support the Black community in any way possible. Here at UO, some of the members are:

Dr. Gilbert Rogers, Asst Dir Financial Wellness, Financial Aid and Scholarships Office

Dr Malcolm Frierson, Visiting History Professor

Cory Mainor - Eugene native, UO alum, and President of UO Black Alumni Network

Damien E. Pitts -Assistant Director of Student Organizations and Diversity Outreach, Lundquist College of Business. Appointed advisor to the Delta Alpha Chapter.

The Xi Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta at the University of Oregon has one major goal. That goal is to change the way that Fraternities are looked at in University culture. Our Fraternity as a whole broke boundaries by becoming one of the few Latinx-based, multicultural fraternities to exist. Most fraternities are known for being your caucasian "brads and chads" that you see in comedic films like "American Pie." While there are more men with diverse names, one thing that was lacking in Greek life for a long time was diversity in skin color and culture. Sigma Lambda Beta opened up the doors for people with Latinx backgrounds to find a place where they can feel belonging. Where they can feel supported speaking their language they learned at home, as well as making cultural references that often can't be shared with white men in traditional fraternities. Through our inclusion and community work, we are pushing the bounds of what it means to be a fraternity. You can still accomplish business while having fun. Between all of our community hours, we still have retreats, play sports together, fires on cool nights, and more. But if we're here in college, it would be a waste to not give back the same way the fraternity has given to us.

Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. Upsilon Chapter is a Latina founded multicultural organization founded on October 9th, 2009 on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene, Oregon. Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc, is dedicated to promoting the achievement and pursuit of higher education among all women. Providing mentors for youth, women, and under-represented communities. The women who began the organization saw the need to create a support system that would encourage women to become involved in their communities, develop leadership skills, and serve as a motivational source for others within their community.
