Rari Blck

Story by Khalil Hines

For most people, a coffee shop is just a coffee shop. For Rari Blck, it’s a symphony of sound. “ I read situations in a melody if that makes sense. Let's just say somebody goes to the store, buys a coffee. Normal people would read it like somebody buying a coffee, but in my mind, I have a melody attached to that whole scenario. Even small things like that I draw a lot of inspiration from.”

The chill, laid-back St. Louis native found his love for creating and improvisation from church, taking drum patterns and melodies from Sunday afternoons as some of his favorite inspirations, even if it doesn’t come out in his music.

Rari Blck has been making music for about three years, and as with most new artists, it has been a journey of trial and error. The constant questioning of whether people would accept his style and like his art plagued his mind, but now he is more comfortable with his expression, creating for himself and not for others.

This has shown through Rari’s work and his eagerness to create, being very active with drops and visuals. In 2021, he released two EPs and two singles, The Art of War Vol. 1: War, and The Art of War Vol 1: Love. The two tapes complete the sound that he has become more comfortable with over the last year. Tracks “War”, “Blacker Berry”, “Love or Lust”, and “D.W.M.T.M.” encapsulate the growth in Rari Blck’s vision and where he sees his voice.

“The point that I’m at now, I think this is where more of my style is, or at least heading to. It’s more of a darker, laid-back, melodic R&B style,” said Rari. “Everyone is like ‘we’re tired of the singing and we need more hardcore rap and stuff,’ and it’s like yeah, I can make that, but ultimately, my style always takes me back to the type of music I like to make, the darker, laid back, more chill music.”

To add to his growing musical prowess, Rari Blck is devising a full plan for himself in the music industry. He is invested in his visual content, having put out high production music videos in collaboration with Woodburn Studios. Outside of being a vocalist and producer, Blck is investing in Aurora Black Records as a label. First created as a way to capitalize legally from his music, in the future, Rari Blck looks to push ABR as a fully functioning label.

If 2021 is any indication, 2022 will be a big year for Rari Blck, who already has multiple performances lined up this year. Coming out of the pandemic with limited opportunity to perform, this year is a moment for Rari to grow as an artist and performer.
